Startrails Photo Night

3 August, 2025 — Trying something new. Shooting 10 second shutter every 5 seconds. Set to take 400 photos. Aperture is f/2.8. ISO is Auto. Photos will be RAW, uncompressed.

7 September note: No need to shoot RAW. Just shoot in JPG. 10 seconds is a great exposure time, every 10 seconds is good. 400 photos is great, ISO 200 is perfect.

I’m shooting in Manual mode, with Manual focus, which is pinpointing the distant Saddleback mountain range. Shooting will commence about 20 minutes after Sundown.

MANUAL MODE is not needed. Shoot in Aperture Priority.

The plan is to import the RAW pics into Lightroom, adjust the middle image of the group, then synchronize the remaining photos with the reference pic.

Export all as JPEG images, then stack them in Photoshop, select all but the last image, and change the blah blah to Lighten. This will bring out the startrails.

I will also do the old movie trick in DaVinci Resolve, this time starting with the final image, leading to the preliminary photos, then finishing with the final image.

Below is the latest image, taken September 7, 2025.
